Hi, and thanks for being here.

Quick thing about the name. I'm actually called Chloé. I grew up in Qatar, and nobody there could quite say it. "Chloé" kept coming out as "shlou", and that's the name I ended up answering to. I always liked it. So when I started bottling things from my kitchen, calling the brand anything else felt a bit silly.

I started shlou because I couldn't find skincare I actually trusted. Most of what's labelled "natural" is anything but: long ingredient lists with one or two plants tucked between fillers and things I couldn't pronounce. I wanted something simpler, where I knew where everything had come from. So I started making my own. First for me, then for friends, then for whoever asked.

A few of the ingredients come from my own garden. Rosemary, calendula, lavender, the rose hips I gather in autumn. The rest comes from a handful of small producers I know and trust. Everything is plant-based. No fillers, no synthetic fragrance, no preservatives doing the heavy lifting. What's on the label is what's in the jar.

This part matters to me. Every single jar is made by me, by hand. I whip the body butter in small batches in my kitchen. I pour the lip balm one at a time. I put the labels on, I pack the boxes. It's why the range is small. I'd rather make a few things really well than lots of things half-well.

I want shlou to feel honest and unfussy. Lovely to use because it actually works, not because the packaging tells you it should be.

The last bit is the most important. I read every message myself. If you've got a question, a request, something your skin needs that I'm not making yet, or you just want to say hi, please write. Through the contact page, or just reply to any email you've had from us. I really do want to hear from you.

Thanks for being here.
